Weston's first English settlers in the early 1700s were mostly farmers living to the southeast in the Town of Fairfield, and Weston was created in 1845. Like many towns in Southwestern Connecticut, Weston is among the most affluent communities in the United States. With a population of just over 10,000, research shows that Weston has the highest median household income in Fairfield County, thereby making it one of the wealthiest communities in the world. Weston is easily accessible via I-95, and is only an hour away from New York City.
Nature lovers and those who appreciate “wide, open spaces” are right at home in Weston. Known for its purchase of conservation restrictions, almost one quarter of the town is permanently devoted to open space use. Thanks to nature conservancies and preserves throughout town, every neighborhood can claim some piece of recreational land nearby as its own. Most of Devil's Den Preserve, a 1,746-acre nature reserve, which gets 40,000 visits a year, is located in the town. The Saugatuck River begins in Weston, flowing through town and ending in Long Island Sound by neighboring Westport.
